Something for Everyone!
After a couple of years under Waihi Drama’s wing, Waihi’s Youth Theatre is ready to leave the nest. They will be a theatrical group in their own right, employing tutors to deliver engaging classes to Waihi’s budding stars.
The success of shows such as The Twits & Fantastic Mr Fox have shown just what you can achieve with a couple of talented tutors and a host of enthusiastic young performers. Want to know more?Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Waihi Drama will continue to support Youth Theatre with free rehearsal and performance space and we look forward to seeing how this initiative grows and develops.
You can join the Waihi Drama Society as a member and that gives you membership to come watch our monthly movie, in the theatre. We put up the big screen, and play whatever movie was chosen the month before. The range is wide, with classics and more modern both being shown. It’s a fun and social night. Check our FB page for updates.
Workshops and Classes
When we can, we apply for funding from creative places and look for tutors so we can offer workshops in a weekend or even classes for a term. These will vary from year to year. What’s on with workshops and classes will be posted here and on our FB page.
We have had some lovely plays on the stage as a one-off show usually for family and friends where the scripts are rehearsed with a Director and the cast get to keep the script in their hands for the show. It’s a great way to ‘have a go’ without the worry of memorising a script. It means anyone can do it - there’s no auditions - if you want to do a play you just ask to do one - and you get to act with new and experienced people. If you’re in a social group, you could ask the WDS for a director and you could have a go as a social event ... anything’s possible. (Note: as most scripts cost to perform, even with a read-through, at times there may be a cost to cover the royalty).
